  • Jazz Ballet is otherwise known as modern dance. Some recent films and musicals that show this form are Fame, All that Jazz, Chicago and Moulin Rouge. Jazz Ballet stems from the movie musicals of the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s with such innovative musicals as West Side Story, Bye Bye Birdie, Flower Drum Song, Silk Stockings and the classic MGM movie, An American In Paris, which featured a 17-minute jazz ballet choreographed by the famous Gene Kelly.
  • Hip-Hop is the latest craze to hit the dance scene and can be seen in most video clips. It is a popular urban youth culture, closely associated with rap music and with the style and fashions of African-American inner-city residents.
  • Classical Ballet is a more structured form that involves understanding of the body and its muscles and is mostly required to produce a quality dancer. It helps with posture and poise. Classical Dance is a form characterised by grace and precision of movement and by elaborate formal gestures, steps, and poses.
  • Acrobatics can be confused with gymnastics. Yes, they are similar in technique, but each style varies quite considerably. We do not use such apparatus as beams, bars and rings, but give students a variation of:
    • Flexibility - splits and bends
    • Balancing - both single and group
    • Floor work - cartwheels, rolls, through to flips and aerial work.
  • Tap Dancing is fun. It is noisy but when you learn how to do it properly the rhythms can be fantastic. The old favorite tap dancers are Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, followed by the more modern dancers..... as in the Tap Dogs who made the movie Bootmen. You are never too young or too old to learn to dance... that is why we have the adult classes.... you just need to bring along your sense of humour!
